Steve Griggs

Steve Griggs

I paint watercolor with a loose, moving and evocative style. My paintings are intended to draw you into the story so you can make it your own. In order to create energy and movement, I paint quickly but, a lot of planning and preparation goes into developing the idea before I ever put my brush to the paper. You can see what goes into the early stages of a painting by looking through the prolific stack of sketchbooks in my studio! I welcome your visit.

Katharine Smith-Warren

Katharine Smith-Warren

Why do I paint? Sometimes I wonder why with all the exciting new technology out there why I choose to use a centuries old practice of applying color to a surface? My work keeps evolving and growing. I’ve worked in oil, acrylic and water color and now I am adding fabric and Japanese sashiko stitching to collages.

Leona Lazar

Leona Lazar

After a rich career in arts administration in museums and as the Executive Director of the Art Students League of Denver for eleven years, today I am a Colorado artist working in ceramic sculpture. Centered on narrative themes from a woman's point-of-view, each abstracted figure has an energy created by exaggerated gestures, distortions, and nuanced expressions defining character. Many speak to the vulnerability of women, yet come from a place of strength. Textured paper clay is my medium.

Kathy Friesz

Kathy Friesz

I am an intuitive painter. I make a mark and respond. The painting takes form in a partnership and dance between myself and the image that evolves. Drawing with graphite and/or the brush is my starting point, and then I respond with color, often adding more linear marks as I progress. My work is ethereal and speaks of portals, places and spaces beyond. Read more about Kathy - link below!

Chuck McCoy

Chuck McCoy

I produce monotypes at fine art presses, working with a master printer. Using a vocabulary of color and composition I improvise on a theme that comes to me at the moment of creation. I've found, through trial and error, that it's better not to start with a preconceived notion of the final result. The moment of revealing the finished piece as the paper runs through the press can be surprising and if you're lucky very fulfilling.

I enjoy the striptease life affords one if able to live long enough. “Life’s rich pageant” reveals history whether it be my vision or an actual happenstance the difference is crucial. The underpinnings of my work tend to represent time passing while exposing the markers that went before me, as my imagery is linked to past experiences. Henry David Thoreau said it best.. “It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see."
